Skyview Drags Announces its 2014 Racing Schedule

Skyview Drags opened its 1/8-mile drag strip in July of 2004. This year marks the 10th anniversary in business and Skyview‘s racing schedule returns to its roots in 2014. “Our emphasis this year is going to be on Bracket Racing & more Bracket Racing,” said Skyview’s Track Director Amy Culver. “We’ve done a lot of big shows in the past and tried to bring in a lot of special events and while they’ve been a lot of fun to do, we wanted this season, our 10th year in the business, to focus on our racers and their Bracket Racing programs.”

The track will host the Chad Wilcox Bike/Sled Shootout, the Junior Dragster Shootout, and their very popular Old School Nostalgia Night, feature the Pro Stick Racing Series. The remainder of the weekly racing season will include the Northern Summer Nationals 2-day event; Skyview’s 10th Annual Blowout race to celebrate their anniversary; The Mid-Season double points race; The Labor Day weekend 2-day event; and the Halloween Classic 2-day event to finish up the racing season. The track is also pleased to announce the return of the Girls Gone Racing event and the Ironman Classic race.

“We’ve packed our season with a lot of great Bracket Racing action as our way of saying Thank You to the racers who have supported us over the past 10 years,” said Track Owner George Swansbrough. “We’ve had amazing success over the past 10 years as Skyview Drags racers have represented the track and won events at both the divisional and national levels.”

In 2008, Super Pro racer Don Kiekel won the IHRA Summit Super Series and went on to runner up at the World Finals in Rockingham, NC. In 2010, Pro Class racer Ray Thurston IV won the IHRA Summit Super Series. In 2011, Super Pro racer Kathy Kiekel won the IHRA Division 3 Top ET championship. And in 2012, Junior Dragster racer Randi Teed became the first racer to win both the IHRA Summit Super Series and the IHRA Division 3 Junior Dragster championship in the same weekend.

“Our racers also campaign some of the most beautiful race vehicles being run,” added Culver. “Bike/Sled racer Lynn Majors has won countless Best Appearing awards for his Dangerous Toy drag bike. Super Pro racer Carl Drake Jr. won the Best Engineered award at the 2012 IHRA Bracket Finals for his gorgeous Diamond dragster. And at the 2013 IHRA Bracket Finals, Skyview Junior Dragster racers swept the category when Dunham Hall won the Best Engineered award and Morgan Burgess won the Best Appearing award.”

Along with a full 2014 racing schedule, Skyview will also introduce a new class to its lineup; Modified Trophy. “The track has always had a Street Trophy class, and so adding a Mod Trophy class is just a natural next step,” stated Culver. The Mod Trophy class will be for vehicles running slick tires, open headers, etc… and will give the Pro Class, Super Pro class and Bike/Sled class racers an opportunity for more seat time, more hits at the tree, and more competition on race day.

Entrance fees, Racing fees and Payouts will remain the same as in 2013.
