Awarded the 2007 IHRA Sportsman Track Of The Year award, Skyview Drags will host the Junior Dragster program each Saturday throughout the year in addition to their regular programs that include the weekly Summit Series 660 IHRA bracket racing series, which features racing in Super Pro, Pro, Street, Trophy, and Bike/Sled.
Precision Crankworks is a machine shop that specializes in crank grinding, balancing, welding, and race engine building.
Owners Don and Kathy Kiekel are drag racers at Skyview Drags, the IHRA 1/8-mile track located in Tioga Center, N.Y. Since the track opened in 2004, the Kiekel's have been an active part of the local drag racing community.
Don, who started his drag racing career in 1981, drives his '89 S&W Dragster in the Super Pro class. He has won the track championship for the past two years.
His wife Kathy, driving her '72 El Camino, was the track's 2008 Street Class Rookie of the Year and 2009 Pro Class Rookie of the Year. She has a brand new ride for the Super Pro class this year.
As part of their ongoing commitment to the sport of drag racing, Precision Crankworks, who was awarded Skyview Drags 2009 Sponsor of the Year, will continue their support in 2010 by sponsoring the Junior Dragster class.
donkathywithingalls"This is our first year of Junior Dragster sponsorship and we are thrilled to be working with Junior Dragster Director Amy Edwards, and Track Manager Amy Culver, to put together a terrific program for our young racers," said Kathy Kiekel. "These kids are the future of our sport and we are happy to show them our support and to give them every opportunity to become the best racers that they can."
Kiekel also noted that their goal is to continue to grow the Junior Dragster program. In 2009, according to Kiekel, they had approximately eight to 12 kids every week and would love to see participation increase so that they have 15 to 20 kids signed up by the 2011 season.
"Hopefully, by running a solid Junior Dragster program, we can get the word out that Skyview Drags is the place to race in upstate New York," Kiekel added. "We have a great schedule for the kids and some really awesome prizes to give away throughout the year."
